Norwich and District Pike Club
Terms & Conditions

Rules for Members:

Conduct and behaviour of members

1 - Members are expected to abide by the Fisheries Byelaws as issued and amended by the Environment Agency from time to time.

2 - Members must honour and respect any rules and/or regulations laid down by the proprietors or managers of the Facilities at all times. This includes parking restrictions, noise, time restrictions of starting and ending your session. It is also vital to close gates behind you as some of our moorings are on private land.

3 - Each member must conduct him/herself in a courteous, orderly and responsible manner at all times, and must not say or do anything that might harm the reputation of the Club.

4 - Should the Committee become aware of an allegation that a member has conducted him/herself in an inappropriate manner at any time; the member in question shall be given a reasonable opportunity to describe and explain the circumstances leading to the allegation. The Committee shall make other enquiries as it sees fit before determining what action (if any) is taken as a result of the allegation.

5 - All members must wear a suitable life jacket when using the clubs boats. Life jackets must be worn over clothing to ensure that they operate correctly. This also applies to any guests in any club boats. These should be inflating life jackets and not buoyancy aids. Buoyancy aids are permitted for children 12 years old or under.

6 – The minimum tackle for pike fishing is expected to be upheld by all club members (Enclosed). The club is setting a standard for the safe handling and preservation of pike. Any member not upholding this may be dismissed from the club.

7 – Facilities of the Norwich and District Pike Club must not be used for personal financial gain. This includes ‘guiding’. Members found to be exploiting this will be instantly excluded from the club.

8 - Each member will be issued with a membership card upon payment of his/her membership fee. A member must carry a valid membership card when using the Facilities and must produce it when required by a proprietor or manager of those Facilities or by a fellow member.

9 – All members must have a valid Environment Agency Rod license and abide by the local and national bylaws set down by the Environment Agency. Members must abide by the Broads Authority Bylaws, speed restrictions and navigation restrictions.

10 – Fishing guests are permitted but must be booked with the Booking Secretary and paid for before fishing. The cost for this is £25 per guest. Non Fishing guests may accompany members free of charge but must be confirmed with the booking secretary at the time a boat is booked.

11 – No Pike fishing will be permitted from any of the NADPC facilities from 16th June until 30th September each year.

12 – On the Trinity Broads system ( Filby, Ormesby Little Broad, Jerusalem Bay, Eels Foot Broad, Lilly/Lady Broad and Rollesby Broad) No lure fishing or live baiting (with fish) for other species such as Perch will be allowed between 16th June and 30 September each year. Perch may still be targeted using other natural baits, but not artificial lures or live fish baits.

This applies to only those waters south of the Rollesby road bridge, but NOT Sportsman’s      Broad.

13 – No modifications may be made to any of the club’s boats or facilities unless these have been specifically agreed with the Chairman in advance.

14 – Rules relating to Sportsman’s Staithe.

Members will park only in the designated car park and will not drive beyond the concrete bollards. Members are not permitted to drive down to the gate to off load equipment. We have regular visits from our partners (Essex and Suffolk Water, BA and EA) at the site and if any member is seen to be driving down to the gate, our license could be removed.

No Livebait is allowed to be used on Sportsman’s Broad, even if caught on the site.

Members are not permitted to enter the wildlife exclusion zone at the North eastern arm of the broad during the period 1st October to the 31st March in any year. This area is illustrated in the map enclosed.

The gate at Sportsman’s staithe must be locked as shown in the photograph below. – DO NOT lock the chain together, but the neighbouring padlocks must be joined. This ensures other users (Essex and Suffolk water, BA, EA) can still access the area. If you are unsure about this, please ask when booking a boat.

It is suggested that ALL members use an electric outboard on the Trinity broad system. There are oars available for all of the boats to use in emergency situations. We have had reports of members being stranded out on the broad and requiring help from Essex and Suffolk water to get back. It is the responsibility of all members to ensure their safety and return when using the club facilities.

No Night fishing on the Trinity Broad system. Fishing is only permitted in daylight hours.

Please observe the exclusion area denoted on the map below.

Please use the oars assigned to the boat you have been allocated.

Ensure the boat is returned to the correct position on the Staithe and locked securely.

It is essential that boats are not moored within five metres of the reeds at any time. This is to try to reduce the problem with ‘killer shrimp’ on the Broad.

The Norwich and District Pike Club has Public Liability Insurance for all of the assets and facilities on offer.

Ormesby Broad Wildlife Exclusion Area. No Boat access to NADPC users from 1st Oct to 31st March in any Year. (Green dotted area)

INFO 1

Please remember, if you spot any illegal fishing related activity, to report it to the Environment Agency immediately. The hotline number is 0800 80 70 60. - Always ask for a reference number when reporting an incident so that it can be followed up.

If there is a likelihood of waters being frozen then the club reserve the right to cancel bookings to reduce the chances of damage to club boats. Some moorings (e.g. Horning) are at greater risk of problems with ice and we have had boats damaged.

Boats – Currently none of our boats are provided with outboard motors; instead we pay the Broads Authority’s “motor craft” toll (where required) for each of our boats so you can use your own outboard motor on our boats without having to pay any further BA toll.

Members may book and use any of these boats without further payment.  Bookings must always be made in advance by calling Philip Cotton on 01508 578701. Please quote your membership number when booking.  He will give you the relevant padlock combinations and explain any specific access and car parking procedures.  When booking, you should also check with Philip if you need to make your own arrangements for oars, rowlocks, mud weights, balers, etc.  Every person must wear a suitable life jacket, (not supplied) when afloat.

When your trip is over, please moor up in a safe and secure fashion taking account of any rise & fall in the tide.  Then please make sure that you leave the boat in a clean & tidy condition, so that it’s as you would wish to find it yourself.  Please take any litter away with you (never mind who dropped it!) and report any loss or damage to the boat to Philip Cotton immediately - telephone number above.

·       River Bure at Horning (NR12 8JS) - Our boat is a 16ft Skiff and it is moored at South Quays Lane - please ask for directions when booking.  Utmost quiet & discretion is required at this mooring - just one complaint from a local resident could result in the termination of our tenancy.  Please ask about where to park when booking.

·       River Thurne at Martham (NR29 4RG) - This is a 14ft Green Glass Fibre boat with an aluminium floor (1201Z). It is moored in the Martham Boat Dyke at Ferrygate Lane and accepts a short-shaft motor.  This boat must be moored “end on” at the end of your trip.

·       River Waveney at Beccles (NR34 9BB) - Our green and yellow fibre glass boat, Reg. No. 18710. ND9 is moored at Fen Lane and accepts a long-shaft motor.  This boat must be moored “end on” at the end of your trip. Please ensure that the front of the boat is tied off to the post after use to stop it hitting other boats.

·       River Yare at Thorpe St Andrew (NR7 0SL) - Our boat (792M) ND11 an Orkney Longliner, is moored at Griffin Lane at a boatyard adjacent to Griffin Marine and accepts a long-shaft motor.

·       Rockland Broad at.the Staithe (NR14 7HP) -. Our Boat (V558) ND10 is a Red and White replica Orkney Spinner. When mooring this boat, be aware that there is a large tidal range here. The boat should be moored stern to the Staithe with the loops round the two posts and with the front mud weight in the water. Leave enough slack rope on the mud weight to allow for the flood tide.

·       Barton Broad at Barton Turf (NR12 8AZ) – Our boat (766U) ND14 (Aluminium seastrike). This boat accepts a long-shaft motor and is moored to the right of the public staithe.
